Worked at Glen Alden,Woodward, Kingston Coal Company, Loree Colliery. Frank came to America five years after his mother. He arrived with his last name of Shumbris, but during an interview when his name was mispronounced, he realized is sounded Russian; so he changed it to Sombers. Frank arrived in Ellis Island as a 13-year-old, who could not speak English. He started work as a breaker boy to help support his mother and stepfather. Frank was severely injured when a coal car ran over and mangled his foot and leg. In the Moses Taylor Hospital a German doctor saved his leg, but he spent the better part of a year recuperating. Although Frank's education ended when he left his home country, the fruits of his sacrifice were realized in his family of 3 boys and 4 girls, who attained bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. Frank, nicknamed Foxy, came to America dreaming the American Dream. His descendants are living proof that dreams do come true.
