William J. Anderson was killed on September 20, 1918 at 11:30 in the No. 14 Colliery of the Pennsylvania Coal Co. by falling rocks. William was a staionary engineer for the Ewen colliery, but was temporarily employed for repair work at the PA Coal Co., he was at the bottom of a rock shaft filling a hoisting bucket with rock when rock fell and struck him on the head killing him instantly. He was 37, survived by his wife and two daughters.
