Thomas emigrated to the United Sates with his family in 1896 and began to work in the coal mines as a laborer, either at the Luke Fidler Colliery in Coal Township or the Glen Burn Colliery, Shamokin. He was married and had 3 children. He was employed as a motor conductor at a coal mine in Nanticoke when he was wounded in a mine explosion and died on the way to the Ashland State Miners Hospital. Thomas was 28 years old at the time of his death.
