Miner Information:
My father entered the mines around 1935-1936, when he was very young. He left in 1953, when I was months old. We then moved to New Jersey, where he worked for Johnson & Johnson until his death in 1963. He died from black lung and heart complications, when he was only 51. Working in the mines is a very hard job, and these men received very little pay. My mother was left a widow, and my brother and I were left fatherless at 15 and 16 years of age. I missed my father very much as a young child growing up. We needed him, and he was not around. I think of my father every day and think how my life would have been different in some way if he had lived. He was a great man, who loved his family very much. Thank you for honoring these great men.
