Miner Information:
Thomas went to work as a Breaker Boy at age 8. He worked his way up to a Motor Man (one of the better paying jobs). He worked for The Henry Mines in Plains, PA. He was the sole survivor of a mine explosion in 1945. He spent one year in a burn hospital. His last day in the mines was the day of the Knox Mine disaster in 1959. Deep coal mining ended in the Wyoming Valley that day. Thomas had a strong heart, but died of black lung at the age of 69. He was a man of few words, but was always proud of his "golden credit rating." He loved his family and was a very good father and husband.
