With three children at home and concerned for his safety, she was instrumental in helping him find a way out by opening a fruit and vegetable store in Nanticoke. He also worked at his brother's business, Butchko's Garage. Dan and Helen later had three more children, and he worked for Penn Dot. After retiring from that job, he worked at King's College at the Facilities Department. Two of his sons, Daniel and David, graduated from King's, as did Daniel's three children.
