Miner’s First Name: Andrew Miner’s Middle Name: Michael Miner’s Last Name: Kwasek Miner’s Picture: Birth Place of Miner: Janowice Miner’s Country: Poland Arrived in USA: 9/20/1910 Miner Information: My grandfather, Andrew (Jockie) Kwasek, emigrated to America in 1910. His last place of residence was Bukowo, Poland. He was a skilled watchmaker and farmer. Here in America, he lived in Plymouth, PA. He worked as a laborer in the local coal mines. I've heard stories that Andrew used to walk to work, at the Loomis Colliery, from Plymouth. Everyone who knew my grandfather spoke very highly of him. He was a hard worker and a very kind, generous man. Andrew married Stella Dargel in 1914. Together they had 6 children. In the late 1930's, the Kwasek family moved to Shickshinny and lived on a farm. The family returned to Plymouth, in the late 1940's. My grandfather passed on March 23, 1959. He is buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Plymouth Twp. Miner’s First Name: William Miner’s Middle Name: T. Miner’s Last Name: Morgan Miner’s Picture: Birth Place of Miner: Miner’s Country: Wales Arrived in USA: Miner Information: William Morgan worked for the Avondale Colliery. He was born in Wales, on Jan. 14, 1814. William, his wife Ann, and their children lived in Plymouth. At 55 years of age, William would have been a very experienced coal miner. His knowledge of working underground was a valued skill. The story of William's death at the Avondale Mine Disaster is one which he shared with 107 fellow miners. No one knows the horror that each and every one of those brave men had to face. Above ground, their wives, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and children could only wait for some good news, that maybe some men would have survived. Surely, the experienced miners would know what to do, how to find a way to survive. The stress felt by the families was unbearable. On that very same day, September 6, 1869, William's wife gave birth to their last child, a son, whom she named Dafydd (David). His birth on that day could have very well been due to the intense stress that Ann was going through. David would only live for 2 years. William T Morgan, who was likely buried at Shupp's Cemetery, Larksville, was re-interred in a family plot, at Shawnee. His son Dafydd shares the back side of William's headstone. William's wife Ann Morgan Bengough and William's daughter Jennie Morgan, are also buried in the family plot.
