Joseph Charles Holminski, Jr. is the son of a coal miner, a son who started to sneak off to the Glen Lyon breaker to work as a breaker boy, at the age of 8, instead of going to school. When his father figured out what he was doing, he never went back to the breaker after a good scolding with the belt. He finished his first year of High School, enlisted into the military for WWII where he got his GED, and after the war, went to work for Glen Alden Coal Co. At home, a make-shift shower near the coal burning furnace was made for him in the basement, where he would shower after work, because he would arrive home with his clothes and face covered with coal dust.
