Miner Information:
Emigrated to U.S. through Ellis Island on July 4,1921. He was almost sent back because of a rash, but after 4 days in the infirmary was found not to be contagious and was released. Through friends he came to Minersville/Branchdale and worked in mines in the area. He had some harrowing situations but loved the work, the people, and the local towns. As youngsters we visited often. He came to Swedeland, PA, in 1925, and worked for Allen Wood Steel Co. as a laborer and then as an Engineer on RR (spanning 44 yrs.) on the Dinghy, Locomotive, and Diesel. He was a hard worker, providing for his family, and went to Mass every Sunday (Holy Name Society). He enjoyed singing Slovak songs, dancing the Czardas and Russian Cossack, and like most coal miners and railroaders enjoyed beer and whiskey.
